Dancing to the Beat of a Capricorn Drum…

David Grohl

If you’ve recently come across my blog, you may be under the impression that it’s all about Capricorn… well, it sort of is at the moment since it’s Capricorn season, and I’m having a bit of fun with my Sun sign.

It’s kind of funny because up until a couple of years ago I used to avoid telling people what my Sun sign is because… it’s a conversation, and sometimes even a mood, killer. People who enjoy astrology tend to switch off the moment this sign is mentioned.

As JuzZodiac says:

“Many are easy to say that Capricorn’s are cold, distant, harsh, and some go as far to say that they are boring. This is a horrible stereotype to give to one of the funniest, quirkiest, and smartest signs of the zodiac. I can admit, when you first meet a Capricorn, they can come across as a little harsh. Their words may come across as rude, and they may appear a little bit critical, but this is a natural thing for a Capricorn to do. They scope people out, try to figure out what kind of person they are, and if they feel they can trust you, they will be your friend for life. Instead of tensing up around a cold Capricorn, joke around with them, help them to open up opposed to avoiding their sharp stares. “

I get why people find Capricorns annoying, really I do, I find myself very annoying… which leads me to my first music video featuring a Capricorn musician.

.

Mary J. Blige – Therapy (1 Mic 1 Take)

.

Other signs often accuse Capricorns of not expressing their feelings, some go as far to suggest that we don’t actually have feelings, that we are cold inside and out, and because we lack feelings, we lack empathy, sympathy and the ability to understand the feelings of others… more precisely the feelings of the person accusing us of lacking emotions.

I can see from where this misperception comes. We tend not to talk about feelings, we prefer to feel them, figure them out and then act on them if action is required by the feeling.

.

Elvis Presley – A Little Less Conversation (original 1968 version)

.

When we do decide to express our feelings, it can surprise people because they didn’t know how deep someone who appeared so shallow to them could be, it may even overwhelm, suck them in and spit them out.

.

Janis Joplin – Ball And Chain (Amazing Performance at Monterey)

.

We can be very heavy when we’re in deep, intense feeling mode. It can scare others away from us more than when we appear cold and detached from emotions. The way others react to us when we share what is within sometimes makes us think twice about ever doing that again. We may consider revealing our inner depth with others a mistake, and we don’t like to make the same mistake twice. We aren’t afraid of making mistakes, we consider it a normal and necessary part of life, we’re very practical about it and seek to learn from our errors, move up the ladder of mistake-making to the next level.

.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Live (HD) – (Jimmy Page – Capricorn).

.

The way that we affect others is something we notice, when we seem most unaware is often when we are processing what we’ve observed. We are aware of how others are feeling, more than we’ll ever let on (we sometimes keep this hidden because it make make others uncomfortable to know that they are being studied), and we often curb our self expression because of it.

So we’re not being cold to hurt you, we’re distancing ourselves to protect you. And besides, our emotions are our responsibility, not yours. You have your own emotions to deal with, you don’t need us to pile our problems onto yours. That would not be fair to you…

.

R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts (Official Music Video)

.

… and it wouldn’t be fair to us to either because we’d miss learning a valuable lesson from dealing with our own pain on our own. And if you let us sort things out, be patient with our silent and reserved nature, you’ll benefit from it because we’ll give you the best of us rather than the rest, not so best, of us.

We will notice everything you do for us, and everything which you don’t do for us. We’ll hear everything you say, and everything which you don’t say. We’ll compare what you say with what you do. We will take our time to get to know you, and once we know you well enough (always keeping in mind that there is more to know and discover about you), we’ll relax and let you into our inner sanctum, which is a rather sweet place, we have a very soft underbelly, and we are very loyal once we love you (but it takes us ages to love, due perhaps to Saturn’s (our ruling planet) influence.

.

Dolly Parton – I Will Always Love You (Live)

.

On the flip side, away from the hidden, silent, inner side of Capricorns, away from the sweet, soft, loyal underbelly… we can indeed live up fully to our stereotype, and how other signs see us.

We are ambitious, sometimes ruthless and relentless in pursuing and achieving our goal, whatever it may be. We will sacrifice comfort, love, home, family, country, culture, and many other things (and sometimes people) to chase our dream and win our prize.

.

Andrea Bocelli – Nessun Dorma – (Giacomo Puccini – Capricorn)

.

We do like dress to impress when conducting our business, because others judge people by the way that they are dressed, the way that they look to them, we pay attention to trends in judgment and use that sort of information to advance ourselves in society. We do like the finer things in life, we prefer to earn them as that is what gives it value to us. We can be extremely materialistic, but our materialism tends to have a practical undercurrent… and may reflect the undercurrent in society. So, before you accuse us… take a look at the world around you.

Stereotypes usually have some truth to them, but it may not be seen by us the way that others signs see it. We may give it a quirky spin, and create our own style.

.

PSY – GANGNAM STYLE (강남스타일) M/V

.

People often miss the quirk in Capricorn, the humorously capricious side, which likes to mess around but does it in a deadpan manner which others misinterpret as seriousness. It’s our own fault that others think we’re being serious when we’re being silly, we just can’t resist the straight-faced delivery of a joke. Check out David Bowie in the video below, that’s classic Cap humour – he deliberately got the joke wrong, we love doing that! We always assume that other people are intelligent and will understand what we are doing. We’re partly right about that and partly wrong, the part where we’re wrong sometimes gets us into misunderstanding trouble.

.

Under Pressure – Bowie and Lennox – (both Capricorns)

.

Misunderstanding dogs the footsteps of the Sea-Goat like a shadow, testing the mettle of Capricorns, honing them, whittling away the temptations of arrogance with the healing balm of humility. We thrive under pressure even when it threatens to crush us.

Sometimes we thrive so well under pressure, we make a career out of it.

People often hate us for not being affected by their hate. It affects us, we’d rather not be hated, but if that’s the way it is going to be then we’d better make use of it.

Capricorn’s motto is – I use.

How we ‘use’ will vary from Capricorn to Capricorn… we’re not all the same, no one is.

Some Capricorns are indeed as bad as you think they are, and they may use what you think to shape themselves. Most Capricorns though, aren’t that bad, but they may still use what you think of them to shape themselves in some way. If you think they’re bad… why fight it, why try to convince you otherwise, your thoughts and opinions belong to you and are your responsibility, and when you try to make them our responsibility too… why not use it creatively, prosper from it, live well as the best counter-argument.

If you think we’re an evil freak, then…

.

Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People

.

…but please give our good normal side a chance. It may test your patience, but it might be worth it… or not. Who knows, it’s up to you… how we experience others is always up to us to a degree.

And if you keep attracting and/or being attracted to Capricorns and you would like for this to stop… maybe you should look at your own chart, we all have Capricorn in our charts and maybe the answer lies in that segment of life. A lesson the universe wants you to absorb, even if you don’t want to absorb it or learn it… that’s usually the way with lessons, especially when Capricorn is in the mix.

I didn’t really want to be a Capricorn… the stars had other plans which overruled mine. So I’m learning my lessons, mistake after mistake… sometimes that’s the way life is, sometimes that’s what it’s like to be human.

  1. Excellent!! Really enjoyed reading this! I’m a Scor… and usually leave it at that as well. Haha. Interestingly, I’m a progressed Capricorn and saw the change in me the moment my progressed sign changed from Sagittarius to Capricorn… I was a little tentative because of the Saturnian influence but now I wish it had changed a lot sooner. Thanks for the wonderful breakdown! Cheers and wishing you a Happy New Year! CC

    • Thank you very much 🙂

My progressed Sun is in Pisces… I’m sort of expressing that by swimming in all sorts of directions.

I love Scorpios! That’s a Capricorn thing, I think… Caps and Scorps have a lot in common. I also have strong Scorp in my natal chart. Beautiful sign, love the intensity and honesty. So tired of hearing astro peeps go on and on about the sex thing associated with Scorp, just like the business thing with Caps. But I guess it’s par for the course.

I was just having a bit of fun with this… I actually learned a few things which surprised me 😉

Best wishes for you too for a very Happy New Year! Scorps have had it tough recently because of Saturn transiting the sign… now it’s moved into Sagittarius (with a short regression into Scorp to review what has been learned) – adventure awaits! Spread your beautiful wings!

  2. Ma fatther was a Caoricorn, the wisest, the cleverest, the most creative and inventive man I know. He knew how to earn money, was dedicated to family, handsome, manly, Alpha… He was rough on the surface and gentle inside, as if he didn t want to show it so not to be wounded, or didn’t know how. Very often my mother – who was as opposite of him as possible – said to me: My poor child, you’re just like your father, people will never know how gentle and nice you are 🙂 (I am a sagittarius)

    • Thank you for sharing 🙂

You’re a Capriquarius! You might find this amusing – http://www.tarot.com/astrology/capricorn-aquarius-cusp

I totally get the whole staying away from Sun sign stuff particularly when your Sun is in Cap because most interpretations for our Sun sign are so boring, stodgy and blergh. It’s superficial for most signs but it’s like when astrologers get to Capricorn they’re fed up with Christmas and dreading living up to their New Year’s resolutions so they take it all out on our sign 😉

I just checked out my Solar return for this year and… decided that astrology is bullshit even though I love the stuff!

      • The biggest reason I stay away from Star signs is because I found the predictions to be self fulfilling in my life and when I found faith the journey of life became unpredictable and much more interesting in a better way. I may be explaining this badly. I think I am.

I believe there is a measure of truth in astrology inasmuch as it is a reading of people and characters, but I prefer to pitch my tent in a life of trust and faith in God, His plans and purposes for my life. The journey with Him has proved to be more challenging, much less predictable, filled with potential and hope, rather than dread and fear.

I think this stubborn old goat needs a few more winks of sleep!
        Haha! 😉

Thanks for making me more interesting 😉

        • Predictions, especially negative ones, have a way of embedding themselves in the mind and as we worry about them so we feed them, giving them power over us and that can direct our actions which then cause the very thing we’re afraid of happening.

Sounds like you’ve found your bliss, and your guide in life – best feeling ever!

          • I agree about predictions, except for biblical predictions, which had to be 100% accurate or death to the so called prophet!

And yes, I found what I needed much more than finding out what my horoscope (horrorscope) or sun/star sign had to say, though, as I said previously, there are evident truths and undoubtedly some kind of knowledge to be had in the material. I’d just rather trust my future to the living God than into the hands of men.
