Ask Me A Question…?

I’m An Upturned Soul… but why?

The name of this blog is an anagram of something else.

That something else is rather boring, perhaps, but the anagram of it sounds interesting. Maybe. Maybe not.

I’m a mess… a soul who is constantly being upturned, topsy and turvy, or something like that.

If I tried to explain it, it would only leave you with more questions than answers.

My explanations have mostly caused more headaches than healing.

For me and for others.

.

unanswered questions:unquestioned answers

.

Perhaps because I prefer questions and questioning.

I like causing others to question too.

Particularly to question me and my answers to questions (this has caused me endless problems… which I hate and love to hate).

.

This is my answer to – Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

.

They labeled this question – All About Me…

But if there is one question I have had answered repeatedly in life, it’s that all about me is rarely actually about me, all about you is never all about you, if it is about you or me at all, rather than being all about someone else.

All about you and me is often all about someone else.

The question they ask you about you, ain’t about you at all, but about them.

But…

All about someone else is often all about you… me.

The question you ask them about them, ain’t about them at all, but about you…me.

.

the answer is Yes

.

So…

something something…

Ask me a question and let’s see what happens.

Your questions will be the prompts for my posts this week.

If you don’t ask me anything, then…

… my posts will be about nothing.

Same as usual then.

.

Mess of unfinished thoughts

.

If you’re a lurker – you can ask anonymously (you can use a temporary email and name). If you don’t want me to publish your comment and question, just say that in the comment and question.

Your rules will apply to a degree – please remember I’m a mess. Me-mess rules apply.

If you’re a troll, I won’t approve your comment but I will make a post out of it. So you’ll get attention.

If you’re a regular, feel free to be irregular.

Let’s have fun with this… and please be aware that I often find fun where others find anything but fun.

.

John green - liberating.

Ask me a question… or don’t.

It’s up to you, and you won’t be responsible for what I do…

with it…

Over to you!

No worries, I forget what I’m thinking too all the time and confusion is my default setting. Thoughts are like breaths of air. Your comment definitely inspires a post.

  2. You’ve said somewhere recently that you’re a hermit. I’m curious if you feel that is something to overcome or not? I’m not sure exactly how to phrase this question. Generally I’ve seen a more negative stance towards someone being a hermit than positive, so I wonder what your thoughts are on the subject as a self-identified hermit.

Greetings from a sort of a new lurker. 🙂

Your question is brilliant, and I’ll enjoy answering it in a post this week.

Quick answer is – I’ve finally stopped trying to overcome who I am naturally… but sometimes I still think who I am naturally is wrong.

And Hi, from one lurker to another!

  3. Dear Ursula,
here is my question: how do manage to write and find inspiration everyday? have you got a particular ritual (!)? How do you face those bleak days blurred with no concentration and a bit restless in your mind (maybe this is unknown to you)?

    • Thank you very much, Seashell 🙂

I love the question and will turn it into a post this week.

Quick answer is, that I do what Hemingway recommended:

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” ― Ernest Hemingway

Bleakness, blurriness, lack of concentration, restlessness… these things bleed profusely and are my daily hemorrhage.

  4. Yes I’ve often wondered what country you live in. When you describe your surroundings some time, sheep in the road last year or someone coming to cut the hedge, I know it’s a small rural town. I always wonder, is she in the English country side but she could be in Texas for all I know

When I hear the tone in your writings, you sound like a Brit to me but you spell like you are in the states. Of course I know places you’ve told us you’ve lived as well as marveled at your Italian. I read someone every day I sometimes hear my version of their voice and I am always surprised to find out how totally far off I am

So I know divulging location is a total violation and not conducive to safety but I’ll settle for a vague clue, a continent perhaps
Or what regional dialect you speak with bc that has nothing to do w current location.

And of course, if you skip this question, I’ll be reading tomorrow just like I do most days

I do live in the UK, in the English countryside. As for my voice, it’s a weird mix of accents and influences just like my writing – the way I write is similar to the way I talk, except I try to edit out the excessive swearing (often in Italian), it’s probably closer to the way I think than talk because I’m fairly taciturn in person (or at least I think I am) as I weird people out – and they get distracted by trying to figure out where I’m from to fit me into a category.

This is a great question, one which I think hits close to home for all of us when engaging online, and even offline. How much do we reveal?

I also read people’s writing in voices which I give them based on how I hear their words. It’s so strange, and yet rather fun!

Love this question because thinking about it is like saying oopsie daisy when making a blooper as it makes you smile, and even a grump like me sometimes goes all squishy-faced.

Surprisingly (as in considering some of the things I’ve written about, and how intense I can be) I have many happy memories. I’ll try to share one which isn’t disgusting 😉 and which others may find happy too or at least funny.

  6. 1st I think we’re all messy, upturned souls in our own way 2nd I tried to come up with a really awesome question, but my brain is elsewhere, so I’m going to go with…Why do you use an alias? Not that I’m saying there’s anything wrong with it, I’ve done it myself and would legally change my name in it’s entirety and disappear if I could, I’m just curious. Some people, and not necessarily narcissists, want people to know exactly who it is that is expressing the thoughts that they produce, whether blogs, books, scripts, etc. so what is your reasoning for not doing so? I know you go by “Ursula” but that may be an alias as well. Knowing you, you’ve probably addressed all this in a blog at some point, so I apologize if I’ve missed it. I have seen one where you briefly touched on the subject but I do not recall it going too in depth. That’s it, quite boring and far from profound.

It’s a great question, it’s something which is very pertinent to being online, for all messy upturned souls 😉

Ursula is a nickname (I explain that in my About page). So, yes, it’s an alias. I have written about this before, but I have no idea where in my archives those posts are located (the blog’s a mess like me). Every time I think about it, I have a different take on it. It’ll be fun to explore it again and see what comes rising to the surface.

I think in some ways using an alias online means you get to create who you are from scratch – you can be whoever you want to be. It’s an intriguing experiment to do on yourself. I just ended up being myself, perhaps more myself than I am when using my legal name. ‘Ursula’ has actually helped me be more myself offline by being myself online.

I’m not looking to get credited for anything or get a book deal or stuff like that, I’m after what I’ve always been after – just to be myself.

  7. Here’s my question; What do you think made or shaped you to not turn out to be like your narcissistic parents?

    • Thank you very much 🙂

Now, there’s a question, one which I’m not sure I can answer. I’ve tried answering it before, but I’m not sure about those answers. I will write something and see where it goes, I may tie it in with Cyndi’s comment.

I watched an episode of Ray Donovan the other night which involved a family get together for his son’s b’day… brought back some stark memories of life with my family. Birthday parties were always the perfect occasions for narcissistic drama. That show is rather agonising to watch, it hits close to home. It’s very good though.

I think I probably was most influenced by moments which were spent with people who were kind, considerate and reasonable, who listened and cared, and they let me know that not everyone has to be narcissistic in life. I was shown that there were options. Of course seeing that there are options and actually etaking another path is different.

I am the sort of person who can be quite abrupt, I like to cut to the chase, and that can come across as rude. I hate small talk, and thank you is sometimes small talk in my mind. But I’m not completely dense about it. Not everyone feels that way, we are all differently wired, and it’s important to consider how others are wired and to make adjustments as long as we are still being true to who we are. And please and thank can be really nice.

On the internet things like a thank you can be far more than small talk, especially on social media. People who take the time to share themselves via comments on my blog are taking time from their lives to interact with me, to connect, and for that I am always deeply appreciative. Someone reached out and touched me in a world which can sometimes feel so impersonal. So my thank yous are genuine. Even if someone is being rude to me – they took time out from their busy life to single me out for rudeness and give me their attention which could have been used elsewhere 😉

I actually learned to be more polite online from teenagers on tumblr. Those people whom adults are always accusing of being rude are actually some of the most amazingly considerate humans around, especially online. They taught this rude adult quite a few things about how to behave. But it does have to be genuinely felt when said, otherwise it is fake and prone to slipping into the N zone 😉
