How To (probably NOT) Read Your Astrology Chart

I love astrology, and I don’t care if people think the subject is bullshit or even dangerous…

The above statement is both true and untrue, and subject to fluctuations, subtleties, nuances, and complex twists and turns common amongst humans.

.

peace-and-violence

something I keep in mind when looking at other humans, hope those other humans keep this in mind when looking at me

.

A quick pause before I continue this train of thought (a train which may well go off the rails as the driver is easily distracted by tangents and the rail system used is a bit of an old one prone to rust, leaves on the line, broken signals, bridges being out, and chasms along the way that beckon the passengers to leap into them).

Since I’m going to be using my natal chart in my rambling and babbling in this post… here’s my natal chart (without all the aspect lines to confuse matters – for aspects see the blocky chart underneath the circular one):

.

If you want to generate a free natal chart for yourself go to – Astrodienst – log in as a ‘guest’, pop in your birth data, and get a free chart. If you want a free reading use the Astroclick Portrait (which is the simplest and most informative to get to know your chart) in the Free Horoscopes section. If you click on Astroclick Portrait first it’ll take you to a dialogue page to become a ‘guest’ user.

.

Also common amongst humans is the almost magical ability to turn anything into bullshit and to make it dangerous…

especially when it is an ‘unknown’ which frightens us. Often when we’re afraid of something because we don’t understand it we’re also afraid of anyone who is into that something, who seems to understand it and who isn’t afraid of it (and we may get pissed off at them for not being afraid while we are because anger and fear are intimately connected), and we may try to convince others to join us in our afraid stance (because fear, like misery, loves and desperately needs company – the more the merrier in misery and fear).

Since I’m a loner (which all of my natal chart pretty much confirms – highlights of this are Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Virgo, Virgo rising which prefer solitude as a refuge) the idea of being stuck hiding under a bed or in a closet with a bunch of frightened people made miserable by the pain of fear is anathema and prone to provoking me to leap out and face whatever it is we’re supposed to be hiding from because it’s going to kill us and eat us (or perhaps kill us while eating us alive). I also have Pluto in Virgo in the 1st house of self, identity (which squares Lilith in the 10th house of status)… so my ‘status and identity’ is often ‘destroying self’ for some reason or another like choosing to be destroyed rather than being stuck in a claustrophobic nightmare of anticipation of eventual annihilation by some Big Bad Wolf out there.

.

.

I have an almost allergic reaction to the feeling of being trapped – that’s in part due to having Uranus in the 1st house (it has a foot over the threshold into the 2nd house of values – shit that’s mine, Mine, MINE), loosely conjunct Pluto (‘loosely conjunct’ means the close relationship between those two planets was on its way out when I was born, they’d spent too much time together and really couldn’t stand each other anymore even if when they first got together they were certain they’d finally met their ‘soulmate’, but were still hanging out and on by a tiny and very frayed thread before finally admitting it was over between them).

When an ‘unknown’ frightens me, my most regular reaction is to investigate it and make it a known (as much as is possible for a scatterbrain like me – Mercury in Aquarius – who gets bored far too irritatingly easily – Mercury in the 5th needs to have fun while learning, but fun is very fleeting).

According to my natal chart and how I interpret it, particularly my Mars in Scorpio in the 3rd house (of communication, which often shows certain aspects of how your mind works or doesn’t work), if you slap a label of ‘dangerous bullshit’ on something that’s pretty much going to guarantee that I’ll want to investigate it for myself and make up my own mind about it… and about you and your view of that ‘dangerous bullshit’.

Here’s a link to someone’s article on why astrology is dangerous bullshit – Astrology, Bullshit Raised to an Art-Form – and why people like me who love astrology are deluded, stupid, brainwashed by snakeoil salesmen known as astrologers, and best avoided by those who think they know what truth and reality is.

I found that article (really heavy intellectual reading) while trying to discover a bit more about the astrologer Matthew Currie whose work I recently came across and found hilarious and informative – my favourite combo. The article’s author seems to have a particular dislike for that particular astrologer, and there’s a long argument between them in the comments of that article which was far more interesting than the article itself – as comments often are – mainly because it wasn’t a display of intellectual prowess (which can be tedious especially when someone is ponderously monologuing, which intellectuals often do).

Matthew Currie seems to enjoy fighting online with people who challenge him and his work – I think he said he was a Sagittarius (can’t find his chart or astro info – so many astrologers keep their own natal charts ‘private’ from prying eyes… or maybe I didn’t search hard or well enough), a Sun sign which loves to argue boisterously and could teach everyone about the joys of arguing. He had an argument on one of his posts (a very silly post which he made very clear was very silly, yet… why is it that very silly posts often attract people who want to argue seriously, maybe this answers that –  How to Annoy People with your Mars Sign – or maybe it doesn’t) which I enjoyed exploring from my very detached position or browsing lurker of blogs. Unfortunately I’ve deleted my browsing history since then and can’t find that particular post (I’ve tried and got bored more than halfway through rummaging in his archives).

You’d think with so much Virgo in my natal chart that I’d be more efficient, but then again it was the Virgo side of me which deleted the browsing history in a ‘tidying up’ moment (I was erasing traces of the furniture porn I was slobbering over – Capricorns have an erotic thing about well made structures and that for this Cappy includes the structure of people – what they think, feel, how they view reality).

.

universal-lingo

While I’m fortunate to speak more than just English (and understand more than just English), verbal languages aren’t what I really speak or understand. My mother tongue is more attuned to the primal, the unsaid and unseen or something like that.

.

Anyway, enough of this far too long intro (yup, all those words were part of an intro), on to the meat and potatoes of this post.

How to (probably NOT) read your astrology chart… or at least my natal chart. This could also be called several other titles, some positive, some negative, depending on your state of mind and other stuff.

I’m using myself and my chart as an example, but anyone can do this using themselves or someone else and your or their chart… however it’s easier to do it with yourself, and really before you do this to someone else you should practice it on yourself as it might make you more aware of the pitfalls of doing it and thus might also make you more generous towards others…

something worth considering…

especially after a little interlude which occurred on my blog yesterday. Someone (DisgustedbyCaps) came onto one of my astrology posts and commented thus:

.

“Interesting article. My only question for Capricorns is, taking in their needs and the energy that they require in order to function at their peak in account. When does a Cap acknowledge and apologize for their fuckery? So Caps admit that they are cold and you seem to champion, in your article, the concept that if somone has an issue with a Cap, it’s that person’ s problem and not the Caps. But when that callousness becomes insensitive is that still only my problem?

All this just sounds like a pile of bullshit excusing yourselves from ever being held responsible for the fucked up way Caps sometimes treat people. You’ve already given yourself license to be an ice cold asshole cunt of a human being who gets away with your fuckery because you delude yourselves into thinking that an energy that you’ve helped to create by virtue of your detached persona renders you void of all responsibilities that come with how you as Caps decide to treat people.”

.

I paused a long time before approving this comment because frankly I’m bored of this kind of ‘use of astrology’. This isn’t astrology, this is human being human (you could replace the word/label ‘Capricorn’ with ‘Narcissist’ or anything else). This kind of ‘astrology’ is the kind which makes me agree with skeptics and astrology haterz that astrology is bullshit and ‘dangerous’.

But I was in a ‘fuck it’ mood (perhaps due to the Moon transiting Virgo – where it is at home in my chart and therefore I was feeling more feeling, and feeling more vulnerable… I am ‘dangerous’ when vulnerable), so I approved it. I was going to wait awhile before replying until I’d whittled down my reply to a ‘Thank you for sharing’ as all shares are informative and thus appreciated… but someone else waded in unexpectedly to reply and ‘defended’ me – which blew me away (I’m used to handling things on my own, never expect anyone to stand by me, support me, defend me or anything like that and it always surprises me and leaves me burfling – I think I may have just made that word up), but also required that I step in just in case DisgustedbyCaps decided to rant at the person who stepped in and replied to them.

While I was fairly certain that DisgustedbyCaps was a ‘hit and run’ kind of commenter – the kind who drop a pile of steaming poo through your letterbox and don’t stick around to deal with the stink they’ve caused, but run away to avoid the consequences of their actions – while often wanting others to do the opposite, run off laughing at what they’ve done – hate others who do this to them, feeling buoyed by the adrenaline rush of confronting ‘the enemy’ usually in the form of someone who has nothing to do with their ‘real’ enemy – they’re usually too scared of the ‘real’ enemy and so pick on others with whom they feel safe to do so.

But you never know…

So I replied to their comment (found in a slightly confusing knot thanks to how WordPress organises comments and replies on this post – Do you have relationship problems with a Capricorn?) before I was ready to do so and let loose some Mars in Scorpio fairy dust mixed with Pluto in Virgo in the 1st house glitter, with a pinch of sparkly Uranus trine Mercury kinky quirky madness…

.

the-man-i-am

I’ve been ‘false to my nature’ for the benefit of others… it didn’t make them any happier than their misery allowed them to be, but it did exhaust me and make me join them in misery but our misery was not compatible. I’m too old for this game, if you’re going to hate me it might as well be fun for me, and if I’m going to have regrets it might as well be for saying what I’m thinking.

.

So… how does all of this blither blather relate to reading your natal chart?

The first thing which most people know about their ‘astrology’ tends to be their Sun sign. Some people never go beyond this and that is… rather annoying but also typical of humans. When first introduced to astrology as a teenager (by my very first Ken doll… wait, no… boyfriend, I had loads of Ken dolls before that, when he said – my Sun sign is better than yours and I had to check his ‘fact’ and version of reality) I got stuck in Sun sign land for years. Mind you this was before Internet (the dark ages of the modern world). Being stuck in Sun sign land as a Capricorn Sun sign is like… just imagine something which sucks – doing the dishes, trying to get cat hair off of a black suit, filing your taxes, going to the dentist, getting a lecture on what’s wrong with you, etc.

At some point a Capricorn has to develop a sick sense of humour about being a Capricorn or perish under the burden of being one – most other signs do not get our sense of humour, just add that to the myriad ways other signs don’t get us and think we’re the devil incarnate and conclude that the zodiac would be better off without us (if you wiped us out because you were granted one gift of exterminating an entire ‘classification’ of people… which sign would become your next bugaboo that the zodiac would be better off without?).

.

what-doesnt-kill-you-humor

One of Capricorn’s coping mechanisms is to make Antarctica feel warm

.

If you’re just going by someone’s Sun sign… you may get some mileage out of it but if what you want to do is know and/or understand someone (including yourself) this tactic is doomed to failure because if you do the math – a lot of people were born during the period assigned to this Sun sign. Are you all the same? Would any of you want to be the same? A tiny bit of sameness is likeable, it connects people, a little bit more sameness is cosy, but too much and it’ll be dislikable and suspect. If this person says ‘me too’ to me one more time I’m going to… turn all Dalek (exterminate) on their Borg (we assimilate) arse – I wonder if they’re thinking the same thing!?

The Sun sign is fun (or terribly not fun at all), but it’s just the tip of the subject.

Yes, I’m a Capricorn sun but…

for starters that Capricorn sun is in the 5th house – the 5th house represents a host of things associated with the Sun sign Leo. Having your sun in the house of Leo is rather good astrologically. Of course there are also ‘bad’ things which come with it. One of the things I love about astrology is it tends to have a fair balance of good and bad, and can also be neutral (waiting for your or someone else’s interpretation to shift it out of neutral).

That 5th house Sun may explain why I like to have ‘fun’, and be creative, writing about my Sun sign (even if it annoys the cursing demons out of others). Call me and everyone of my Sun sign an “ice cold asshole cunt of a human beingand it’s game on. If you thought you could stop me dead in my tracks by your use of ‘see you next tuesday’ (otherwise known as ‘cunt’)… I’ll see your ‘see you next tuesday’ and raise you a ‘watch out what you say and how your bite can end up biting you’. Call me a ‘cunt’ and you’re pretty much giving me permission to be exactly that – usually I refrain from being that way but your invitation is tempting.

My 5th house sun has a ‘special’ relationship with my 1st house Pluto… ruh roh (sinister winky face).

.

Bane quote - The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah, yeah, Pluto in the 1st… blah darkness, blah shadows, blah destruction, blah, blah… Pluto thinks it’s cute when I mess with it like this, I know it can destroy me but it won’t as long as I make it laugh (winky power) and frankly even if it does destroy me we’ve done this dance before…

.

Lets’ navigate my chart, shall we (if you have your own chart, tab it up in your browser and navigate it while I navigate mine – mine’s only interesting to me, but how I read mine may help you with reading yours… or not at all)… do I hear screams of let’s not shall we!?

First we should stop and pay homage to the Ascendant because this is – your face to the world. Frankly those trying to guess your Sun sign have a better chance of guessing your rising sign/ascendant. This is the persona which you use most often to deal with the rest of the world, and it also filters the rest of the world for you so you can deal with it.

My Asc/rising sign is Virgo…

.

virgo

Sigh. Heavy sigh… stopping sighing someone might hear you and ask you how you are and then you’ll have to lie to them to protect them from…

.

I will analyse the world to death (Pluto in Virgo is stepping in, interfering as usual with it’s special brand of the Virgo experience).

I deal with the rest of the world by analysing it, deconstructing it into sections like a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes I don’t bother puttingwhat I’ve deconstructed back together because… other stuff in my chart which is a lazy S.O.B. and transiting Neptune is still not finished with my 6th house of daily order so… that mess on the floor is staying that way, I’ve tried to tidy it up and that just makes more of a mess of it.

While my Virgo Moon is in the 12th and therefore will be dealt with last on this tour of a natal chart…

Wait, I’m last again? – asks Virgo Moon.

Yes, Virgo Moon, you’re last again even though as the engine of my locomotive chart (part of the side of astrology which deals with chart shapes) you’re actually sort of first, and no one cares what you’re feeling… we’ve discussed this privately and have come to an understanding. People mainly only want to know how you’re feeling when it correlates with what they’re feeling (12th house stuff – collective consciousness, etc, and Chiron in Pisces in the 7th stuff – your wound is their wound, etc), and thus what you’re feeling personally is actually about what they’re feeling personally (and may be the personal impersonal – whatever that means) and how you’ll express it for them and make sense of their feelings so they can deal with them… otherwise they’d prefer to view you as being without feeling – I prefer to view you that way sometimes because frankly what you feel can be too intense for even me to compute and process – that’s why we blog.

Speaking of blogging, you know what… I’ve bitten off more than I can chew, this isn’t going to be what I had originally thought it would be, or something like that and it’s time to admit that this post is too long already and if I want to keep going I’d better make this Part One of some sort of series…

whether there’ll ever be a part two…

I had never heard of Matthew Currie until he decided to insist that astrology was legitimate (while offering zero evidence for that claim).

I’m glad you found my article informative, and you’re welcome to keep believing astrology. Many people find nonsense comforting, regardless of how much evidence there is against it.

I found your article very interesting. You’re a superb debater and you make an excellent argument against astrology. I liked your gambit of keeping things open to be proven wrong – that’s a sign of a very high IQ which is always worth admiring. I also like your attitude – you’re not dogmatic and that’s a rarity in those who challenge systems (whatever the system). You want people to stop and think about the ‘opiate’ they’re using for their particular mass and ask themselves why they’re using it , who sold it to them (and why those people sold it to them) and what purpose it serves them.

I’m not a ‘believer’ in astrology, I just enjoy what it offers. It’s more fun than psychology which is all sturm und drang, imo, although I find that informative too in its own manner. I enjoy science too, especially the behind the scenes goings on – now that is an intriguing story worth delving into.

At the end of the day – we’re born for whatever reason, we live as we do (sometimes in interesting times like these), and then we die (hoping to do so in a dignified manner but is that possible). And maybe there’s little evidence left of our brief spell on Earth, hopefully no one needs to prove that we existed because we had enough of a task of that while we were here (or thought we were here but computer says no, the paperwork was not inputted or was filed incorrectly).

Food for thought is always much appreciated.

      • For the record…

        1) I am a Sagittarius, with a strongly aspected Moon in Cancer/Mars in Capricorn opposition… so yes I can be combative. But I try not to be. 🙂

        2) “I had never heard of Matthew Currie until he decided to insist that astrology was legitimate (while offering zero evidence for that claim)” is an interesting statement, since it was in response to a three-part article specifically dissecting every argument that skeptics come up with to oppose astrology. But hey, it’s fun to just say “bullshit” in public a lot, isn’t it?

        • Thank you very much for commenting and sharing 🙂

If you’re wondering what the ‘silly’ post was which I mentioned I was trying to find in your archives, it wasn’t the one where you address the skeptics as I wouldn’t have called that ‘silly’, it was the one where you were supposedly absent due to being ‘sick with Chiron’ and wrote under the guise of ‘Lola’ or some name like that answering some astrology question regarding relationships and the way you did it appealed to me very much as due to a ‘relationship problems with Capricorn’ post that I did on my blog I get a lot of similar queries and I often think something along the lines of what you said in that ‘silly’ post. It actually wasn’t ‘silly’ at all but since you were having some fun with it and were chilling… Someone in the comments of that post which you did for ‘fun’ took everything very seriously and laid into you and then went off on a rant about astrology being dumbass. I rolled my eyes and sighed – if they think astrology is bullshit why are they bothering with reading your posts and commenting on them, surely they have better things to do with their energy and attention… hmmmmm… You replied to them and a long comment discussion ensued which was rather fascinating.

Now that you’ve shared your Moon in Cancer/Mars in Capricorn… that explains quite a bit about your style of debate/discussion/arguing.

I should probably mention that arguing/debating/heated discussion is something which is ‘home’ for me. Sagittarius is on the cusp of my 4th house. My parents… screaming matches were the norm, arguments were conversation, trying to best each other in an argument was a regular feature of family. So I always find arguments and debates between people interesting.

          I’m a Virgo Moon/ Mars in Scorpio – I like to analyse… to death 😉

Analysing your discussion with Brian – you were always at a disadvantage when debating with him in and on his territory, regardless of how intelligently you did it. Your Moon in Cancer albeit giving you a strong emotional surge (and almost psychic sensitive ability to hone in on someone else’s weak spot) behind any argument which your tenacious and unrelenting Mars in Capricorn decided to get involved in would have eventually been your ‘downfall’ especially if arguing with someone who is stationed in their intellect.

Emotional arguments don’t tend to have much sway with those who are detached from their emotions due to having a high IQ. Most skeptics tend to have high IQ’s – at least of the intellectual variety.

Most skeptics… the fun is in being a skeptic and in challenging whatever their particular skepticism is challenging, and they’ve usually got an arsenal of argument to last a lifetime.

Astrology is actually an ‘easy’ target for a skeptic. Novice skeptics tend to pick astrology as a target to hone their skeptic bones into sharp points. I have a friend who is a fledgling skeptic (and will most likely always remain so because he’s rather Gemini fickle) regularly feels the need to challenge my ‘belief’ in astrology and thus regularly ends up confused because:

1 – I have fun confusing him, just as he has fun challenging me. Capricorn Sun versus Gemini Sun is always a bit of a mixed bag of tricks and treats (and that’s just using Suns).

2 – I don’t ‘believe’ in astrology. I like it, love it, use it, find it to be more exact in certain ways than anything else I use (I’m a Cap Sun – I use), but ‘belief’… belief requires things which I don’t possess (and perhaps I don’t posses them because I choose not to).

3 – I don’t care that he doesn’t ‘believe’ in astrology and don’t feel the need to make him ‘believe’ in it just because I like the subject.

His view is narrow – if you like something like astrology you must therefore ‘believe’ in it (and his whole argument flies out the window with that assumption… things flying out the window can cause confusion), and if you believe in it and someone else doesn’t and that someone else, who has a strong ‘belief’ in the opposite or something else which requires a denial of your belief, challenges your belief (perhaps to bring you over to their side and force you to not believe in your belief because they don’t and thus they think it’s bullshit) then you’re expected to ‘fight back’ with the same kind of… human bullshit. He’s constantly frustrated by his own expectations (by the battle he’s fighting with some ‘thing’ in his psyche), his ‘scientific’ arguments are wasted on me… particularly as he uses pop-science and pop-scientists to bolster his argument (and quotes taken from pop scientists which are completely out of context) which is like using air to fluff up candy and turn it into cotton candy.

I’ve actually pointed him in the direction of Richard Feynman, but… a scientist who exposes the inner workings of science is a scary prospect to someone who is clinging to science (especially pop science which tends to make statements that give the impression of solid fact… a bit like adverts for toothpaste) as a solid structure to ‘believe’ in to help them through this crazy thing called life is a maverick that might scupper the seeming reality of an illusion which is perceived as reality that is free of delusion, etc.

The whole – “But hey, it’s fun to just say “bullshit” in public a lot, isn’t it?” – is very Pluto in Capricorn square Uranus in Aries, don’t you think? With Uranus in Aries shouting ‘bullshit’ at every structure it finds which gets in the way of its progress.

You’re a great astrologer, according to me and what I’ve perused of your work… you really don’t need to bother defending what you do against skeptics. Chances are if you read the charts of those who are skeptics… it would be reflected in their astro, they’re just doing what their chart supports them doing, their skepticism is part of their journey. Just as perhaps your need to fight or at least answer their skepticism is part of your chart and journey.

Transiting Saturn is in Sag at the moment… expanding people’s horizons may just get some reality checks which hurts like hell and require a self honing examination.

What you do is great for those of us who already love astrology – focus your attention our way rather than being distracted by the haterz (although that’s kind of a pointless thing to say to a Sag Sun as you prefer moving targets for your arrows 😉 and don’t like anyone to tell you what to do).

It’s a bit like those people on Twitter who get all caught up in who ‘unfollowed’ them and rant at and chase the escapees trying to win their love and loyalty… and forget that they have many people who are still following them and would like perhaps to be appreciated for their loyalty, but maybe you only get appreciated when you run away and hate… rather than stay and love.

You don’t have to prove anything to anyone… unless you do for your own personal reasons 🙂 or because of a transit or some such prick of a thorn in the side of a whole that causes a drop of blood to emerge, touch earth and grow a plant which may be a weed.

  2. Yikes. I hate the “c” word. Can’t even write it. It’s just so demeaning & nasty. I think you handled the situation very, very well though and I thought your response to be completely appropriate. Certainly more than he or she (probably he, because of the use of the “c” word) deserved.

Chart comparison – I thought it was lots of fun. 🙂 I found out that I’m Scorpio ascendant – haven’t looked up what that means yet though. I’m off to read part 2 (in a bit because my tablet is running out of juice). 🙂

    • I live in the UK where the “c” word doesn’t have quite the same impact or meaning that it has across the pond in the US. I thought Canada was more like the UK in those kind of things, I mean I’ve watched the Trailer Park Boys. Over here it has almost become like the word ‘twat’, and while it is still viewed as a strong swear word it’s not seen as being demeaning in the same way.

Here’s a discussion on an English language forum about it – http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/7059/why-is-cnt-so-much-more-derogatory-in-the-us-than-the-uk

The IP address of the commenter who used it places them in Jamaica. If they weren’t using an IP address scrambler (as in a piece of software which allows you to hide your real IP address) and are genuinely in Jamaica… I have no idea how they use the “c” word over there, it might be similar to the UK use of it and therefore is less strong.

At the end of the day it’s just a word and only has the power to hurt us if we give it that power. What bugged me about its use was not the word itself but the hypocrisy.

If you really want to get a Capricorn’s goat be a hypocrite, that’ll annoy them far more than calling them the “c” word 😉

Speaking of tablets, mine is a total “c” :O

      • Haha. 😀

Thanks for the link – an interesting read. 🙂 It’s not so much that it is a vulgarity – although it is that, too – but more that it’s considered to be extremely
discriminatory. It would fall into the same category as the word n*****. So, the responder in your link who wrote that it’s seen as misogynistic and sexist would be quite right. Canadians have been taught to be hyper-sensitive to any phraseology that could be considered as such. Otherwise, Canadians swear a lot, including religiously-derived vulgarities. We Frenchies have a particular set of vulgarities that revolve around the RC church. And then, of course, there’s the Trailer Park Boys. Bubbles is my hero. 🙂

I’ve lived in the US & have found that Americans take a dim view of swearing in general, but particularly of any that are blasphemous. Saying the word “God” as an expression of surprise, for example, can get you into trouble. One of the commenters points out that the mixed messages in the US are numerous – pornography & guns everywhere but certain words are offensive. They can also be very prudish about sex, imho, which is another contradiction.

There is a big fuss going on right now about the word c*** being used to describe one of our female politicians. The seriousness of this incident is such that the man who said it is likely going to have to make a public apology (and there will be other punishments).

I agree that it is just a word, but I think that typically, those sorts of words are used when people already feel powerless or helpless, and then they feel even worse.

In any case, the commenter was being a hyocrite, and you’re quite right that that’s the important part. 🙂

        • I think it’s important to pay attention to the customs of the culture you’re interacting with (especially if you’re living there), just as it is important to understand what you can and can’t say in your social circle, with your friends and family. While you personally may not agree with their perspective on something like swearing, and may not have the sort of issues which they have with swear words, understanding the dance of discussion, the communal about conversation, is about respect.

If you want people to respect you and be respectful of you then you need to respect others and be respectful, and you need to do it first rather than wait and see if they’ll do it first before you decide whether to do it or not – and if someone disrespects you this isn’t carte blanche for you to be disrespectful. I mean they aren’t the boss of you so why are you behaving as if they are and letting their behaviour dictate yours to you in a manner similar to that commenter on my post. Since one Capricorn disrespected them according to them, this means they can now go around treating all Capricorns badly because that’s okay and they somehow remain unsullied because they’re only treating those who ‘deserve it’ badly. But as the other commenter who weighed in showed – others are watching the way you behave and making decisions about you based on that.

Call someone by the ‘c’ word and people will look at you as being the problem because you used that word. You wanted their attention and now you’ve got it, and now you have to deal with the consequences of your actions even if you’re totally innocent and you’re still blaming the person you called the ‘c’ word as being the cause of all your problems.

Is this the story you mentioned – http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-female-politicians-targeted-by-hateful-sexist-online-attacks-1.3281275 – this is a big problem online where people can remain anonymous while lashing out at others and spewing hate. Something similar happened to the woman who took over running reddit – https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/17/ellen-pao-harassment-feminist

I think the only way to solve this kind of issue is similar to the buddhist concept of peace – each one of us has to start with ourselves and grow things from there. But that’s quite a task, which is why we keep hoping someone else ‘out there’ will sort it out. A lot of the things designed to sort it out only make it worse – in recent years we’ve become too PC, we can’t say anything because someone somewhere will be offended and make that something you can’t say, while that made sense with many of the words used previously it’s become too restrictive causing repression and when people get that repressed and feel that censored something is going to blow – and I think people like Trump have given people the green light to blow off a lot of repressed and suppressed steam. Problem is once that steam has done steaming… we have to tidy up the mess.

          • I agree completely. I have a friend who is a “born-again” Christian, and I’m a sort of atheist (although I believe there’s a lot we don’t know we don’t know, I don’t believe that a superhuman white guy or brown guy or whatever is hovering out in space making sure we behave ourselves – and now I’m rambling), but we don’t ever discuss religion and I avoid swearing around her (the odd one slips out). We are a seriously odd couple as to friendships. So, your point is well taken. It’s all about respecting differences, although it’s okay to disagree, too.

Even at my age, I still get amazed at the propensity toward stereotyping (and I even find myself doing it as well). The commenter decided to lump all Capricorns together and deride you. If one acts that way, then they all act that way! Yikes. As humans, we naturally want to group people and things and experiences. Our limbic brains want us to be cautious while we determine whether we need to be scared or not, and of course, one of the things we always need to be scared of is “different.”

Yes, that is the story. It’s developed a bit more in the sense that various levels of female politicians across party lines are all starting to come out in support of each other and share their experiences. As you’ve pointed out here, it’s not really about the word. It’s really about an ingrained lack of respect that no logical argument or amount of education can seem to touch. All women belong in the kitchen, especially if they’re blonde. All Capricorns are cold & nasty.

            I enjoyed your response. 🙂

            • That’s very true – humans love to categorise and it does seem to be connected to our survival mechanism which we sometimes seem unable to ‘switch off’ in non-survival related scenarios.

Our judgments are seeking to make us and others and life ‘safe’ for us. But we never really feel ‘safe’ enough.

I once read a fascinating bit of research into the effects of modern civilisation on the primal instinct. It said something along the lines of – because a large part of the primal survival mechanism is no longer useful in modern life and thus has become suppressed/repressed it is leaking into wherever it can find a means of expression. Things like road rage were viewed as primal instinct finding an outlet. Because of the suppression and repression and inability of the primal to be ‘useful’ it may burst forth rather suddenly, unexpectedly and violently in areas where we feel threatened or vulnerable, like when we’re in pain or have been hurt.

I read this a long time ago so I don’t recall the source but I’m sure there are plenty of other studies about it, or not… it’s funny how we often don’t study the basics of being human enough (just read an article about how little is known about the vagina :O ).

Some of the worst ‘misogynists’ are sometimes women. Did you read about that model who body-shamed another woman, took a photo of her in the changing room of her local gym and shared it on social media expressing her disgust – luckily most people turned on her for doing that and she now has to deal with the consequences of her action – http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/dani-mathers-snapchat-playboy-playmate-model-naked-woman-body-shaming-photo-a7143046.html

I have the impression that she still doesn’t have a clue about why what she did was wrong and why people turned on her.

It takes time for change especially when that change requires a rewiring of the subliminal programming of decades and centuries – we often don’t know how something came about to be considered the ‘norm’ so making it no longer the norm can be a struggle against the invisible and unknown.

              Love chatting with you!

              • Thanks for the link. 🙂 I’m always a bit astonished by that kind of behaviour. It really points to a serious lack of security and also that terrible tendency to kick someone when they’re down. It’s good to know that others stepped up to the plate to express their disagreement with what she did.

  4. Amazing oist! I’m a Capricorn sun too, but I am very much a free-spirit. I didn’t identify much with Capricorn, but astrology made so much more sense when I found out about rising sign (Sagittarius).

    • Thank you 🙂

Most of the interpretations for Sun signs are so watered down with generalisations that they become one size created to fit all to the point that they fit no one. The Rising sign often explains a lot about us, at least the us we know who interacts with others and the world as the rising sign is a meeting ground. The sun represents ego, and for some that is a private experience, or a part which is hard to get to know. Capricorn suns tend to be private about their ego… or at least they think they are 😉
