A Good Friend Will…

Let you fall asleep in the middle of a game while snuggling a purring cat, gently wake you a couple of hours later to suggest you go to bed, but when you groggily whisper “I’m happy here”, will leave you to sleep on the sofa but also put a freshly filled hot water bottle in bed for you in case you wake up and move from sofa to bed to continue a much needed sleep.

That was me falling asleep on the sofa last night just after dinner, just after I’d handed over the game controller to my partner for his turn. It was my turn to give the cat scrungles, and she was so soft, so purry, I lay down beside her, curling around her, listening to her purr…

Hours later I heard my partner gently suggest I go to bed, but it was too nice, warm, comfy where I was, surrounded by love…

It’s been a strange year, last week I finally solved that complex puzzle I’ve mentioned here and there in recent posts (thanks to the help and support of some very good friends and a few strangers), I haven’t been sleeping well (and usually I sleep like a bear hibernating), too wired in the membrane (would you like some bacon to go with the fried brain?), and finally there came upon me some decent rest…

SO… (oops didn’t mean to shout, my finger is sometimes slow to get off the CAP-sizer)…

A Momma’s View asked people to Tell Me Something Good #130… and the first thing which popped into my mind after reading her post was another post by another blogger.

This post (mine… shit, I’m confusing myself as always… I can rely on myself to do that) is my telling A Momma’s View something good. Thank you, A Momma, for sharing!

Ann Koplow of The Year(s) of Living Non-Judgmentally shared this post a few days ago: Day 2139: I Can’t/I Can wherein she listed can’s and can’t’s, and one of her ‘can’ was – I can go for some comments about this post.

So, this post (mine… really, we’re going to do this again!?Yes, we had fun the last time didn’t we!) is my comment on Ann’s post because I can comment like this on WordPress. Thank you, Ann, for sharing!

― Bernard Meltzer

While I was rummaging through my ‘Likes’ in the reader to find Ann’s post, I noticed that there were some other posts by other bloggers which also fit the Tell Me Something Good concept…

I thought I’d share links to those too.

A few of these blogs are ones I’ve only recently followed, so it may freak them out that I’m pingbacking their posts. Hopefully they’ll follow the pingback link here and find out that (yes, I am a tad on the freaky side) I mean them no harm and don’t want anything from them (you do not have to follow back… probably better if you don’t), I’m just sharing something good – your posts!

Pensitivity101 shared a lovely story about a most heartfelt gift she was given in Sunday Writing Prompt and you’ll see if you read it that she not only received a gift but gave one too, the giving flowed both ways which is the best kind of gift! Thank you, Pensitivity101, for sharing!

The ever poetic soul of Nelkumi of What Does Nelkumi Think? has started to relate A Love Story – beginning in her signature style of subtle soulful whispers. Those who have been following her blog for a while, know how it ends, but… a love story is always forever beginning in the heart. Thank you, Nelkumi, for sharing!

Scherezade Ozwulo of The Introverted Christian showed us in The Privacy Vexation how even when you’re an introvert you can be extroverted, shyness overcome with the inspiring fierceness of a mother who respects the privacy of her child. Thank you, Scherezade, for sharing! You handled the situation with great grace!

Kalliope of Modern Mystic Mother in a different post from the one to which I am sharing a link has apparently decided to ‘tear her blog down’ and start from scratch (Kalliope, you might want to check out Alice’s post…), in that other post she asked Have I shared something valuable? I’m not going to answer because that’s for you to figure out for yourself, however if you’re tearing everything down then I guess that’s your answer. I will say that I truly enjoyed PSA: Grumpy Red Fairy is grumpy and continued enjoying its ripples when I went off on a Google-ship afterwards to discover more about the artist who created the image for the card. 1. Hey! Haha cool! Yeah, I’m totally tearing down my blog. But don’t for a total “revamp” or anything. Just… I’m essentially going to try to “remarket” or “brand” my very special and undefinable… “that thing that I do” hahaha. Which will be to just talk about myself and stuff, and try to get people to “sponsor” the birth of an article. LOL So if I keep yammering on about myself, hopefully people will give me money so I can talk about other stuff that might be useful.
I;m a perfectionist, so I work best when there is a blank slate that I can just pile shit on to. So on to the shit I will pile the stuff! Because I have over 200 blog posts (in seriously 3 months) and I have no fucking idea what I’ve written or said lol. But I am super chuffed you enoyed my Oracle Card Reading! Its little thingys like this that keep a girl running 🙂

    • Thank you very much, Melanie 🙂

It wasn’t a list of friends, it was just a list of posts I liked very recently. Some of these bloggers I’ve only just followed. But their posts were ones I thought people might enjoy to read.

If I were to do a list of friends, you’d definitely be on it! I love you, Melanie, I know that’s weird since we don’t know-know each other, but you’re someone with a big heart and a true soul. ❤

You're amazing and I'm lucky and honoured to have met you!

  4. Thank you for the mention and the chance to get a glimpse at all these other bloggers! I’m glad you forgot I left – it helps that I deleted the post announcing my departure. Now if I can keep posting enough that people remember I’m here again . . . or the first time. Or something like that. Hey, nice quotes!

    • Thank you, Alice 🙂

I really loved what you said in your post. There was a wonderful energy to your words, an AHA energy like you’d found what you were looking for… and that was you.

I’ve been blogging for several years, started blogging when I entered my 40’s (almost 50 now). I actually view the 40’s as being the decade when I finally was released from having to be a normal adult doing normal things (not that I ever figured out how to be that and do that).

There are all these stages/phases you go through with blogging, I’ve noticed them in myself and have observed them in others.

The stage of feeling trapped by your blog and wanting to start a new one.

The stage of wanting to delete your blog and maybe never blog again… but then you find yourself with all this stuff inside which doesn’t know where to go and you don’t know where to put it, but a blog is a perfect vessel for it.

There’s a stage where you become too focused on others, on getting views, Likes, followers, and lose yourself trying to please others. If something you’ve done on your blog gets more attention from people than other things, you may decide to do more of that, but then you get stuck there, and it may not work like it used to. People may get bored of it.

Before An Upturned Soul I had two other blog incarnations. One led to the other and the other led to this one. The first one I only did for a few months before I felt trapped by it, I’d limited myself to only sharing my more positive side… and my more negative side felt left out and frustrated as it had no creative outlet, except to sabotage my positive side’s blog. The second one was more for my darker side, was great fun, very liberating, I only deleted it recently (I had it in tandem with An Upturned Soul) because I hadn’t posted on it for at least a year and also it was on tumblr and they’d changed the editor and I couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to use it.

One of the things I did with An Upturned Soul was to make sure that it was all inclusive of all my sides, my interests, my moods, etc. It’s been great fun, and me and my blog have quite the relationship. It’s helped me through a very stressful period, and taught me a lot about myself and others. However this year I went through a phase of just feeling burdened by it, or more to the point, feeling burdened by the pressures I was putting on myself both with my blog and offline. I came very close to pressing ‘delete blog’, closer than before. So I took a long break… and recently, like you with your blog, I’ve remembered why I love blogging, and love my blog.

You’re Alice and your blog is your Wonderland, explore your world, inner and outer, and share your explorations like you did in your I’m Back post.

I think it’s wonderful that you’re back, reading your words… it just felt natural and happy 🙂

  5. Your quotes are wonderful, especially the Groucho Marx one. 🙂
I am very lucky to have four friends, one of whom is relatively new and such a wonderful unexpected surprise.
I consider you to be a friend too. I dream about you sometimes so I take that to mean that you’re resonating pretty deeply. 🙂
